Out of the Loop
It looks like the new Harry Potter installment is going gangbusters at the box office.
I have never seen a Harry Potter movie. I have never read a Harry Potter book.
Am I missing out?
I know plenty of adults who love these books and heartily urge me to read them, but I just can't do it. I don't know if somewhere in my subconscious I think they are "kid" books, or if it's that I generally don't like fantasy. I can always think of something else to read besides Harry Potter.
Any of you out there have an opinion?

well, harry potter films. in the end it all comes down to this: did i mention the new whigs for everyone? lucius, just OMG, so gorgeous. and severus has a new hair-dresser, too! and the pimp cane. and wolf-love (he stood very close to the dog)! noses aren't everything -- especially when you wear armani so well that it becomes the new epitome of hawtness. pimp my cane! GUH! floorlength brown velvet robes. floorlength black fur coats -- with nothing underneath but tatoos. grey nightshirts made of silk that flutter in the blaze of thousands of glass shards. the cane! black frocks are love, too! how could i forget. and alan has a wand! ZOMG! may i lick that furrow? scars are love, but only if they are attached to the forehead of the wolf! did i mention the cane?
a.k.a. "the curse of the obsessed fan-girl".
Translated: you liked it?
Thanks for dropping by!
Well, this is my story...
I too had never read an H.P. book, seen a movie etc. Never cared to. No interest, whatsoever. Until, I was doing a show, several years ago, which had some child actors who kept raving about them. One of the girls begged me to just read one.. So, I said I would, but couldn't promise that I'd finish it.
After the first few chapters I was hooked. I've read them all, since. Now I wouldn't pay full price, and I will wait for the paperback on this last one.. but they are very enjoyable flights of fancy!!
They're very quick reads, but there are lots of characters to keep up with, so I would just try and breeze through them and not wait too long between books.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
Enjoy!
Ooooooh. I might have to read one and see. But when...
I held out until last year I didn't see the big fuss really until I snagged my hand on the first copy. I was hooked. I quickly purchased the other books.
I had the deluxe edition on back order and would have been receiving it the day it came out, but I forgot that I had my CC # changed. Bah! Oh well I wouldn't have been able to read it this weekend anyway (grumbles.) I prefer hardcover so that's what all my HP books are.
I'm a fast reader and can finish those books in one night, even the long ones, however, I will savor this last one and I'm staying away from any HP fansites. I don't want to know what happens.Ä
I guess I am just being stubborn if I don't read it; too many people say I am missing out.
